It is believed that secondary school children should study international news as one of their school subjects. Others think that this is a waste of valuable school time. Discuss both views and give your opinions.

Whether it is necessary to insert international news analysis session into our current secondary school curriculum, people tends to hold different view to the necessities for secondary students to study international events, though it seems a time-consuming task with no guaranteed improvement for their impending SAT test result. Some even argue since most of the high school students are living on a tight schedule for science and literature mainly, time as a valuable asset should never be allocate to the out of curriculum international event studies. I tend to disagree for the above point, for that it is not only necessary for high school students to study international event, but I highly recommend that international study should be added into our current curriculum as an independent subject along with other science related ones.

First, it is not a waste of time for youngsters to be exposed to international events and politics at early stages of life. They can benefit from mere exposure with a worldwide viewpoint, for instance they can become aware that cultural difference may advocate different living style that embrace different value systems. Also by acknowledge the differences, they tend to have a deepened understanding in the concerns and triggers that underlies a variety of international events and political combats. Among all those benefits in his world-wide senses and formulated cultural awareness, the student gained a competitive advantage towards his peers by considering all the possible alternatives and solutions in the bigger picture. Thus, generally time spent on international studies among high schools is highly rewarding and are likely to pay off in students future endeavors.

Second, international study is not only a time well-spent, but should also be incorporate into high school curriculums as well. Unlike other subjects like sociology or politics that are mandatory in high school curriculum and are vulnerable to biased interpretation , international event study are free from specially tailored ideology and are often accompanied with contrasting interpretations. Also international event studies tend to reflect the contemporary worldwide value conflicts, student can benefit more from analyzing nowadays event than learning outdated interpretations. In this way, our youngsters can be better prepared to university level study during which an analytical mindset is required. Thus, curriculum needs to be expanded to add rooms for international study.

In short, international study is highly beneficial for high school students to invest time in, to become better prepared for future competition , I support the idea to blend international study as a new subject together with sciences and arts in our high school curriculum system.
