Some people think that the amount of noise people make have to be controlled strictly, others say that people are free to make such noise as they wish. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Is noise, an inescapable part of our lives, something that we are free to make or that should be controlled?[E1] While some people believe that noise should be banned completely, I reckon that everyone has their freedom to make noises, provided it is reasonable and moderate.

Some people may argue that noise, referring to a loud and unpleasant sound, is unwelcome in many ways. First of all, long time high decibel noise environment can be a major disturbance to people’s work and study; thus, lowering working and study efficiency. It is not difficult to imagine that students sitting in a classroom school with constant noise nearby would find it hard to concentrate on their studies. In addition, noise in a residential complex would make its dwellers uncomfortable with their living environment. A late night party with loud music and clamor will leaveput the surrounding residentsin a state of sleeplessnessinsomnia[E2] and irritation as well as fatigue at work in the following day.

Without denying that noise is detrimental to our lives, I believe everyone has their rights to make whatever noiseas they like, as long as it causes no disturbance to others. Just as people have rights to rest, they equally enjoy the freedom to do their leisure activities, many of which involve noise, such as singing in a karaoke bar, dancing while playing loud music, and the likes. etc. The world would be a much boring place to be in if we it is completely quiet. were living in a completely quite environment. However, if noises are made without consideration of others’ work and live, it should be stopped or sometimes, be intervened with by the government.

In conclusion, I reckon that noise is an integral part of our lives. As long as it does the noises do not affect others’ lives, people should be left with the freedom to make noise.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS

It’s a sad fact that there are many candidates who have a good enough level of English to get high scores but who fail to complete the writing test on time.

The issue here is really about time management.  Writing tests usually allows for you two write for 20min, 30min, or 40min. It is essential that you know how to budget your time.

So, when you do practice writing at home, your aim is to get to a point of doing essays in not more than 40 minutes (ideally it has to be 30) Don’t worry about it at first; remember this is your aim for test day.  I suggest that you take all the time you need for the first couple of practice tests and then gradually speed up.  You need to strike a balance between grammatical accuracy, using great expressions and vocabulary and doing it all within a time frame.

You’ve also got to strike a balance between respecting that time is an important factor and becoming over-anxious about it.    It is one thing to occasionally look at the clock to see how you’re going for time but it’s another to constantly clock-watch.  Constant clock-watching eats away your time.  If you practice timed writing tasks at home, you’ll soon learn to feel what 20-40 minutes feels like.

Another thing that eats away at your time is counting words too frequently.  Again, there are things you can do at home to help reduce this.

    • Do a practice Writing .

    • Count the number of words in 5 lines of your writing.  Divide this number by 5 and that will give you the average number of words you write on a line.

One page of paper (A4 or letter size) is often around 20-30 lines. Computing it at 20 lines: if your average number of words per line is usually 10, you would write about 200 words on a full page.

These two simple tips can help you avoid wasting valuable time when writing a quick task.
