Topic 1: choosing a suitable career is a problem that faces many young people. What are the reasons? What suggestion would you give to them to help them make the right decision?

Upon graduation, the new graduates are always excited but also somewhat uncertain about the fact that they are heading for a brand new life and start a career they truly enjoy. However, choosing a suitable career is never an easy task. Despite some conspicuous reasons like frustrating job market, miserable salaries for new graduates, there are some deeply rooted causes that are impeding young people locating suitable jobs.

First of all, young people, with little pragmatic experience about day-to-day work, may have an overly-high expectation of their new jobs which they fancy would be exciting and stimulating, while, on the contrary, most jobs are just about doing humdrum and trivial things. Hence, the gap between their illusion and the reality may disappoint them so much that they may give up on a good opportunity easily. That is to say, sometimes, the new graduates are too anxious to do something magnificent with little tolerance of mundane life, and jump to conclusions too promptly without giving themselves more time to see whether they enjoy the job or not.

Besides, it is sometimes difficult to define a “suitable career” itself. Some people believe that a lucrative career is an ideal one, whereas others assert that a suitable career is the one where one’s true interest lies. Whether one should choose financially rewarding or emotionally rewarding job is actually a matter of personal choice, but it is undeniable that many people are doing better-off jobs that they don’t genuinely enjoy just for the sake of higher pay.

For the students who are going to enter the society, there are several suggestions that I think might help. Firstly, be aware that no matter how fantastic the job title is or how exciting the job description illustrates, daily work can be monotonous. They should be patient and wait to see if they truly like the job or not. Moreover, if the student already knows the desire of his heart, it is better for him or her not to care about the pay at very beginning. The opportunity of working in the industry and accumulating rich experience is more crucial than money. And in a foreseeable future, when full-fledged, they are able to size better opportunities and seek further progress.
